The present invention relates to oily astaxanthin (AXT) suspensions having an improved property profile obtainable by grinding AXT particles in an oil suitable as a food or feed additive; the use of the oily AXT suspension prepared in this way as an additive for foodstuffs or animal feeds and dietary supplements, and also such agents comprising the oily AXT suspensions prepared according to the invention; and a method of modifying the AXT crystal form by milling AXT particles.
