ABSTRACT
Deep Sea Water (DSW) industry characterized by their rich mineral substances and trace metals, is suitable for multi-application developments such as fishery and algae aquaculture, medicine, food/drinking, cosmetics, and other economic value added products. The eastern region of Taiwan with unique pumping DSW conditions and prosperity on its industry applications is expected. Algae divided into four divisions included “Cyanophyte”, “Chlorophyta”, “Archaeplastida” and “Phaeophyta” are frequently found in the ocean around Taiwan. This study is based on the algae aquaculture surveys on DSW application and is divided into “Bioconcentration” and “Biomass Energy” departments. This study will be used as a reference material for DSW multi-oriental application and algae aquaculture development in the future.

Introduction 1.1 Origin of research It not only combines the cleanness of deep sea water without the danger of toxic pollutants being bio-concentrated by seaweed at the same time, but only the characteristics of deep sea water to have abundant nutrients that can also be used as the fertilizer for seaweed’s growth. Using these two characteristics to plant high economic value algae is the unique advantage of deep sea water. In order to understand the ability of deep sea water to affect the growth and fat accumulation of Chlorella soroskiniana T89 and Nannochloropsis oculata, this research uses deep sea water and surface sea water to conduct the cultivation experiment of Chlorella soroskiniana T89 and Nannochloropsis oculata, to observe the growth rate OD690 and cell numbers and changing status of neutral fat cell numbers, and to investigate the possibility of using deep sea water as the cultivation water of Chlorella soroskiniana T89 and Nannochloropsis oculata so that to provide a reference for the multiple purpose application of deep sea water and market expansion of algae aquaculture industry.
