The concept is to embed downhole imaging technology into intervention/fishing BHA. Once combined, the tool can be run into a well to latch onto the fish. If the run is not successful and the tool does not latch onto the fish, the tool embedded Camera (acoustic, sonar, electric, magnetic) imaging sensors could be activated VIA (W/L, E/L, MWD signal, Flow manipulation, electric pulse, EM, Acoustic signal) to take a picture of the top of the fish. The picture would show exactly what profile is looking up the well and, therefore, ensure that the fish could be properly engaged on the following run. Advancements in sonar technology have proven that acoustic images can be taken through drilling fluids. If this technology, or another imaging technology, could be combined with standard fishing engagement tools, the risk of missed runs could be decreased. A possible embodiment would be an overshot and grapple combination that has this acoustic sensor built into the tool. Currently the work string and BHA attempts to engage the fish, but, if it fails to latch, there is no way of knowing why it failed. However, if the overshot had the capability to ""take a picture"" of the fish looking up the well, the chance of success on the next run would be greatly increased. An acoustic sensor could be built into the latching device and activated prior to POOH. (tool could be activated and powered by batteries, MWD turbine, E/L, W/L, EM, Acoustic wave signals, Electric waves through the drill pipe, etc. Another embodiment would be a Camera/lens/sensor/acoustic transmitter/receiver built into the end of a ""modified"" Itco Spear that can image the ""Fish"" profile allowing the proper grapples to be selected.
