ABSTRACT
Korea has developed a number of fishing ports, including 105 national and 319 regional fishing ports, for about 30 years since national and regional ports were specified in 1971 at first. Recently fishing port facilities with a function of tourism in their waterfront area are insufficient because of a rise in the standard of living and increase of opportunities for people to make use of spare times. Therefore, Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries (MOMAF) in Korea is implementing feasibility study in order to develop multi-functional fishing ports. The Ssangyong Eng. & Const. Co., Ltd. has been developing Dae-Po port located in Sokcho city as a future-oriented multi-functional port complex for fishing & tourism, sponsored by MOMAF and Sokcho city. This study explains the process that the Dae-Po port has been designed and constructed.
Due to a lot of tourist destinations around Dae-Po Port such as Sorak mountain, beautiful scenery of Kwan-Dong, Famous beaches and hot spring, etc, and lots of resorts where tourists are able to access in all seasons, the number of tourists have been increasing every years. Following this trends, the Ssangyong Eng. & Const. Co., Ltd. has introduced waterfront spaces and facilities by creating new tourism resources through succeeding to the original characteristics of Dae-Po port, extending port facilities and maintaining the peculiar fisheries functions by consolidating the old existing facilities and disordered restaurants. This work will contribute to the improvement of domestic harbor technology by actively introducing new construction method and new technology such as wave dissipating block(tunnel-type block) for the elevation of harbor temperature and water exchange breakwater using a steel pipe for the improvement of harbor water quality caused by the expansion of harbor facilities.
