Abstract
Debris accumulation inside production casing becomes a major production problem when it covers a portion of the completion interval. Coiled tubing has traditionally been used to get accumulated material out of the casing. The efficiency of this process depends upon the velocity of gas or fluid in the casing below the packer and the ability of the well to maintain sufficient velocity in the tubing to lift the jetted material. When the coiled tubing is removed from the well and production is resumed, any material washed into the perforations or not flowed completely out of the well will fall back into the casing and will again accumulate across the production interval.
A new tool has been developed which, in many wells, will be a very simple alternative to the use of coiled tubing. This tool, when run in adaptable wells, will clean out the accumulated material in the casing and then remain in the wellbore to keep flow restrictive material from accumulating in the production interval.
The development and application of this tool are discussed in this paper.
