This study details the development of an ‘underwater glider with a density-difference-engine’ for the use of oceanographic survey, monitoring the marine environment, fisheries, ocean exploration, and marine sports/leisure activities. The underwater glider presented here is unique, in that it incorporates no propulsion machinery which makes it silent and can be maintained with relative ease. This silent and safe vehicle is easy on the environment and many forms of life in the ocean. The glider is designed for a high efficiency of energy. Developing an underwater glider with density-difference-engine, making maximum use of the natural energy of the ocean will enable us to efficiently conduct an environment-friendly survey of the rich ecosystem around the pycnocline.
