RIASSUNTO
Scale formation occurs when dissolved salts in production brine aggregate on downhole tools. The selective deposition of the scale is used to create a downhole seal. The seals are targeted to create fluid isolation on the downhole tools. These seals are formed without adding additional material from the surface. Instead, an applied voltage triggers the deposition of the salts onto the target surface. The accretion product can be used to form the backup on a packer element, to create a seal in a gravel pack, or to patch a hole in casing. The result is a self-assembling construction method.
