A Novel Design and Implementation of Automated Feeding Mechanism in Fish Aquariums

RIASSUNTO

Smart fish feeding is used in the fishery business for its efficiency and standard maintenance. A proper device consisting of both manual operation and remote access in the context of household aquariums is not available in the market. We have designed a device which enables both manual and automated operation using a microcontroller. The user can easily set the time with the keypad to dispense food in the aquarium. It is also possible to remotely control the food dispenser via a website. The device has two chambers, the top one holds the fish food and the bottom one contains the motor operated rotating fish food dispenser. A servomotor controls the amount of food that can enter the bottom chamber from the top chamber. The rotating mechanism in the bottom chamber has a worm nail with spiral grooves, which dispenses the right amount of food to the aquarium water when the nail is rotated clockwise using a 12 volt gear motor. Overall, the design is low-cost, compact, easy to move and can be latched to any aquarium easily. This device should be very useful to people who leave their houses for a prolonged period for vacations or official business.
